Why us
Using a play-based, child-led model we build on a child’s motivations and strengths, cultivate positive relationships, and partner with the family in the therapeutic process, to achieve transformational change
Child Led
Focused on a child’s interests and preferences so they feel empowered to engage and participate. When children have freedom to make their own choices and take the lead they grow in independence, decision making and confidence. As they direct their own play they develop various skills, including, problem solving, social interactions, sensory integration and motor skills, within a meaningful context.
Strengths Based
Identify strengths by recognizing and celebrating the child’s existing skills, abilities, and interests. Empower children through their strengths. Base goals on existing strengths using these as a foundation for building skills. Start with success and scaffold learning.
Relationship Focused
Establish rapport in a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. Build on the child’s individual vulnerabilities and preferences, particularly in relation to sensory processing. Encourage active participation from the child in order to foster a sense of ownership and investment in the process.
Family Centered
Recognize that caregivers are experts in their children and play an integral part in the evaluation, goal setting, and intervention processes. Encourage active participation of caregivers in play. Empower caregivers to be confident, knowledgeable and actively engaged. Partner with caregivers to promote carry-over from sessions to daily life.
